History says that the education in the Tabanivono – Ira area (ruled by a particular chief) started in the churches and then later on in bures and bamboo houses. Children from nearby villages used to attend classes in the church at Momi village. Teachers at that time were volunteers from nearby villagers. The number of children started to increase with less space in the church. The men of the Tabanivono – Ira cleared the thick bushes in the present location that is, Momi.
School started in 1930’s with one bamboo house located in Momi Village beside the Nursing Station today. The first teachers of that time were volunteers from nearby villages including Maikeli Mocetadra from Yako Village, Anaseini Vulakeiono from Nabila Village, Peniasi Naqau from Lomawai Village and Adi Ela Vasuitoga from Sila Village in Cuvu the District of Nadroga. At that time classes begin at Class 1 to Class 6.
The first civil servants to serve at the school were Mr. & Mrs. Naisau of Nailaga, Ba, Mr. Setariki Vetuku of Nadroumai, Cuvu and later was Mrs. Lusiana Leitabu of Navosa. Also during this time the classes were introduced from class 1 to class 8. The subjects taught at that time were Fijian, Maths and a little English. Apart from attending class, the children were expected to weed the teachers’ cassava patches and gather firewood for teachers to cook their food. During that time the school consisted of children from 5 Villages, Momi, Nabila and Yako (Tabanivono area), Tau and Bavu (Lewe- I – Koroiva)
